Review
Housecall Pro review
Housecall Pro scores 4.7 out of 5 from 2,744 Capterra reviews and 2.5 out of 5 from 632 Trustpilot reviews. That is the same product rated 2.2 points apart, a bigger gap than the one between it and any rival. The most repeated theme in the negative reviews is billing, repeat charges and difficulty cancelling, and its own published terms are unusually permissive on exactly those points.
Research-led reviewThe author has not used this product. Built from public sources. What this means
The author has not used this product. Everything here comes from six public sources: the maker's own site, its pricing and refund terms, its changelog, its support forum, counted complaints across recent public reviews, and a like-for-like comparison against the nearest alternatives. We never claim experience we do not have.
Which badge a page carries is enforced in the site build, not just in editing. A page cannot use first-hand language unless it has declared itself a real-use review, so the badge and the writing cannot drift apart. The full method
We earn a commission if you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you.How this works
You pay exactly what you would pay going direct. The maker pays us a share of their margin, not a surcharge on you.
We are never paid for a positive verdict, no maker sees a review before it publishes, and we publish verdicts recommending against products we could earn from. Commission rates never influence which products we cover or how we rank them. Full disclosure
Independent comparison. We are an affiliate of some platforms named here. We do not speak for Housecall Pro, Jobber or HighLevel, and nothing on this page is an official statement by any of them. Figures come from each maker's own published pages on the date shown, and we correct them when they change.
The short version
- Two independent review platforms disagree about this product by 2.2 points out of 5.
- Billing and cancellation is the most repeated complaint theme, ahead of support and bugs.
- Their terms publish a non-refundable $25 chargeback fee and state fees are not refunded on termination.
- The software itself rates highly on ease of use and features. The disputes are commercial, not technical.

Read that distribution against the 2.5 score, because they do not obviously match. A straight mean of that spread is about 3.7, more than a point above the score shown. Trustpilot says its TrustScore weights newer reviews more heavily than older ones rather than taking a flat average, which is the most likely explanation for a 2.5 sitting under a distribution that averages 3.7. We cannot see the dating on the reviews, so that is our reading rather than a fact.
We cannot tell you which platform is right, and anyone who says they can is guessing. What can be said plainly is that neither sample is neutral. Both platforms allow vendors to solicit reviews, including through automated invitation campaigns, and we cannot see how many reviews on either site arrived that way. Quoting only the flattering one, which most pages about this product do, is the actual problem.
One detail worth noting without drawing a conclusion from it: among the Trustpilot complaints is a recurring grievance about unfulfilled promises of gift cards. We are not going to connect that to how reviews are collected, because we cannot evidence it. We will note that the grievance exists and let you weigh it.
The counted complaints
What the negative Housecall Pro reviews are about
Trustpilot 1 and 2 star reviews · counted across the visible recent reviews within 632 reviews
- Billing, repeat charges and cancelling8
- Support unresponsive or chatbot-only5
- Sales tactics and unfulfilled gift card offers4
- Bugs and messages sent without approval3
- HCP Assist and accounting integration failures2
The shape of that list is the finding. The top theme is not a software problem. It is billing: unauthorised or repeated charges, difficulty cancelling, and no refund on disputed transactions. Second is support being unreachable or answering through a chatbot. Third is sales conduct, including the gift card complaints. Only fourth is anything about the product being buggy.
Compare that with Jobber's complaint pattern, where the top themes are reporting depth and missing fields for specialist trades. Those are people wanting the software to do more. These are people wanting to stop paying for it.
| In reviewers’ terms | |
|---|---|
| 1 | Unauthorised or repeated charges, difficulty cancelling, and no refund on disputed transactions |
| 2 | Support unreachable, or answered by chatbot rather than a person |
| 3 | Unfulfilled promises about gift cards, sales calls at inappropriate hours, and overselling |
| 4 | Bugs, and automated messages sent to customers without approval |
| 5 | HCP Assist answering service failures and accounting integration problems |
The complaints match the contract
Here is the part that makes those complaints worth taking seriously rather than dismissing as the usual internet fury. The most repeated grievance is about billing and cancelling, and Housecall Pro's own published terms permit precisely the outcomes people are describing.
| Detail | |
|---|---|
| Free trial | 14 days, no credit card required, cancel any time |
| Refunds | Subscription fees are not prorated or refunded except as their agreement sets out |
| On termination | Their terms state you receive no refund of fees unless explicitly stated otherwise |
| Chargebacks | A non-refundable $25 fee for each chargeback, regardless of who wins the dispute |
| Renewal | Their terms state in capitals that all subscriptions automatically renew if not cancelled first |
| Contracts | Their pricing FAQ says no long-term contracts are required |
None of this is hidden or unusual enough to be a scandal. Plenty of software renews automatically and refunds nothing. It is worth reading before the 14 day trial ends rather than in month seven, which is the practical advice this page exists to give. If you are already past that point and looking to move, what is actually available is on Housecall Pro alternatives, and half of it will not tell you a price.
What it does well
| Rated on | Housecall Pro | Jobber |
|---|---|---|
| Ease of use | 4.5 | 4.5 |
| Customer service | 4.7 | 4.6 |
| Features | 4.5 | 4.3 |
| Value for money | 4.6 | 4.4 |
On Capterra, Housecall Pro rates higher than Jobber on three of the four measures and level with it on ease of use, including customer service at 4.7, which sits oddly against the Trustpilot complaints about support. The consistent praise across both platforms is for the interface: easy to learn, quick to set up, and genuinely all-in-one for scheduling, dispatch, invoicing and taking payment in the field.
The recurring product criticisms on Capterra are below. They are ordinary software complaints and none of them should stop a purchase on its own.
| What reviewers describe | |
|---|---|
| 1 | Invoicing described as cumbersome and limited for complex jobs |
| 2 | Bugs and glitches that disrupt workflow |
| 3 | Variable support wait times despite the high service score |
| 4 | Email and bulk messaging lacking customisation |
What works
- Highest Capterra rating in this silo, 4.7 from 2,744 reviews
- Interface is the most consistently praised thing about it, across both platforms
- Genuinely all-in-one for scheduling, dispatch, invoicing and payment
- 2.59% card-present processing is the cheapest rate published by any tool in this silo
- 14 day trial with Max features and no credit card required
What does not
- Trustpilot score of 2.5 from 632 reviews, 2.2 points below its Capterra score
- Billing and cancellation is the single most repeated complaint theme
- Non-refundable $25 fee for every chargeback, regardless of who wins
- A sixth user on Essentials costs $100 a month against $29 on Jobber
- The advertised 2.59% is card-present only. Invoiced is 2.99%, keyed-in is 3.49%
Verdict
| Plan | Monthly | Annual, per month | Included | Each extra user |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $79 | $59 | 1 user included | Not offered on this plan |
| Essentials | $189 | $149 | 5 users included | $100 a month each |
| Max | $329 | $299 | 8 users included | $75 a month each |
The verdict
The software is well liked and the commercial terms are not. Those two things are both true and most reviews of this product pick one. If you are the kind of buyer who evaluates during a trial, sets a calendar reminder before renewal, and takes cards on a reader rather than over the phone, the complaint pattern here is largely not aimed at you. If you are not, it is worth reading twice. We earn nothing from Housecall Pro or from Jobber, so there is no version of this page that pays us better.
- Crews tap cards on site all day
- Strong case. 2.59% card-present beats everything else here
- Crew of five, no plans to grow
- Fine. $149 a month annually, same as Jobber at that size
- Hiring through the year
- Jobber. $100 a sixth seat against $29 is the deciding number
- You dislike auto-renewal and hard cancellations
- Read the terms first. They permit exactly what the complaints describe
- You judge software by its interface
- It is the most praised thing about this product on both platforms
- The trap
- Reading only the Capterra score, or only the Trustpilot one
Neither product does this half
Housecall Pro is bought to fix operational chaos and it is good at that. If your diary has gaps instead, the problem is upstream: missed calls, unchased quotes, reviews nobody asks for. That is covered on missed call text back.

Common questions
Is Housecall Pro any good?
The software rates very well and the commercial terms rate badly, which is why its two review scores are 2.2 points apart. It holds 4.7 out of 5 from 2,744 Capterra reviews with the interface consistently praised, and 2.5 out of 5 from 632 Trustpilot reviews where billing and cancellation is the top complaint theme.
Why does Housecall Pro have bad reviews on Trustpilot?
Across the visible negative reviews the themes in order are billing including repeat charges and difficulty cancelling, unresponsive support or chatbot-only help, sales conduct including unfulfilled gift card offers, bugs and automated messages sent to customers without approval, and HCP Assist and accounting integration failures. Trustpilot also weights recent reviews more heavily than lifetime ones.
Is Housecall Pro hard to cancel?
Their published terms state that subscription fees are not prorated or refunded except as their agreement sets out, that on termination you receive no refund unless explicitly stated otherwise, and in capitals that subscriptions renew automatically if not cancelled first. Difficulty cancelling is also the most repeated complaint theme in their negative reviews.
Is Housecall Pro better than Jobber?
Neither wins outright. Housecall Pro rates higher on Capterra and lower on Trustpilot, has the cheapest card-present processing at 2.59%, and charges $100 for a sixth user against Jobber’s $29. At five users both cost $149 a month billed annually, so crew growth and how you take card payments decide it.
What does Housecall Pro cost?
Basic is $79 a month or $59 annually with one user, Essentials is $189 or $149 annually with five, and Max is $329 or $299 annually with eight. Extra users are $100 a month on Essentials and $75 on Max. Card processing runs from 2.59% to 3.49% depending on how the card is taken.
Does Housecall Pro have a free trial?
Yes, 14 days with Max plan features and no credit card required. Given that billing is the most repeated complaint theme, a trial that needs no card on file is the right way to evaluate it, and it is worth reading the renewal and refund terms before that trial ends.
