Costs

The GoHighLevel phone system

LC Phone costs $0.0166 a minute outbound, $0.01165 inbound, $0.00747 per SMS segment and $1.15 a month per local number, all charged from the agency wallet on top of your plan. The detail that costs agencies real money is not the rate: on the $97 Starter plan you cannot rebill any of it to clients, so every text your clients send comes out of your margin.

The author has not used this product. Everything here comes from six public sources: the maker's own site, its pricing and refund terms, its changelog, its support forum, counted complaints across recent public reviews, and a like-for-like comparison against the nearest alternatives. We never claim experience we do not have.

Which badge a page carries is enforced in the site build, not just in editing. A page cannot use first-hand language unless it has declared itself a real-use review, so the badge and the writing cannot drift apart. The full method

You pay exactly what you would pay going direct. The maker pays us a share of their margin, not a surcharge on you.

We are never paid for a positive verdict, no maker sees a review before it publishes, and we publish verdicts recommending against products we could earn from. Commission rates never influence which products we cover or how we rank them. Full disclosure

Independent comparison. We are an affiliate of some platforms named here. We do not speak for HighLevel, and nothing on this page is an official statement by any of them. Figures come from each maker's own published pages on the date shown, and we correct them when they change.

The short version

  • Nothing here is included in the plan price. Phone is metered from a wallet that auto-recharges your card.
  • Rebilling at cost needs the $297 plan. Rebilling with markup needs the $497 one.
  • Transcription costs $0.024 a minute, which is more than the call it transcribes.
  • Two of HighLevel’s own help articles publish different base rates on the same day.

MMS outbound, US$0.0220Roughly three times an SMS segment
MMS inbound, local$0.0165You pay to receive picture messages
Local number$1.15 / monthPer number held
Toll-free number$2.15 / monthPer number held
Call recording$0.0025 / minOn top of the call itself
Transcription$0.024 / minMore than the call it transcribes
Voicemail drop$0.0180 / minBilled per drop as a call
Read the transcription row against the outbound call row. Transcribing a call costs $0.024 a minute while the call itself costs $0.0166. Switching transcription on across an account more than doubles the cost of every conversation, and it is a toggle rather than a purchase, so it rarely gets a decision.
Carrier fees on outbound SMS, charged on top of the segment rate
CarrierPer outbound SMS
AT&T$0.0035
T-Mobile$0.0045
Verizon$0.0045

Carrier fees are the line people forget, and they are not small relative to the base rate. A segment to a Verizon number costs $0.00747 plus $0.0045, which is $0.01197, so the carrier fee is roughly 60% again on top. Quote a client on the headline segment price and you have underpriced the work by more than a third.

Email is metered from the same wallet at $0.675 per 1,000 emails, on every plan, which is cheap enough that it rarely drives a decision, but it is not zero and it is not in the plan price either.

What a month actually costs

Rates per segment are hard to feel. Here is a single sub-account running ordinary activity for a month, with carrier fees included at the Verizon rate and no transcription.

One sub-account, one month, worked at published rates
ActivityVolumeCost
Local number1 number$1.15
Outbound calls500 minutes$8.30
Inbound calls800 minutes$9.32
Outbound SMS3,000 segments$35.91
Inbound SMS1,500 segments$11.21
Total usageOne sub-account$65.89
That is one client. Starter allows three, so $197.67 a month is the most usage that plan can generate, and none of it can be charged back to anyone. Ten clients at that volume, which needs the $297 plan, is $659 a month. Which brings us to the part of this page that matters most.

The rebilling trap

$297is the cheapest plan that lets you pass phone and email usage on to clients at all, even at exactly what it costs you.HighLevel pricing and billing guide, checked 3 September 2026
Rebilling by plan
PlanRebill usage? What that means in practice
Starter, $97NoEvery call, text and email your clients send comes out of your wallet, and there is no mechanism to charge them for it.
Unlimited, $297At costYou can pass usage through to sub-accounts at exactly what it costs you. No margin.
Agency Pro, $497With markupPart of SaaS mode. You set the price above cost and keep the difference.

This is the single most expensive thing to learn late. The $97 plan is sold as the starting point for an agency, it includes three sub-accounts, and it is the obvious first purchase. But three sub-accounts of real client activity generate real usage, and on that plan the usage is yours to absorb. Three clients at the volume worked above is $197.67 a month, which almost exactly cancels the $200 you saved by not being on the $297 tier.

The arithmetic that decides it is simple. If your clients will together generate more than roughly $200 a month in phone and email usage, the $297 plan is cheaper than the $97 plan, because rebilling at cost removes an expense you would otherwise eat. That is an unusual sentence to write about a plan that costs three times more, and it is the reason this page exists.

Markup, and therefore usage as a profit line rather than a cost line, only arrives at $497 as part of SaaS mode. We cover what else that tier buys on SaaS mode and the plan comparison.

Two price lists, one platform

While checking these numbers, two HighLevel help articles published on the same platform gave different base rates on the same day. Neither is marked as superseded or historic.

Both read on 3 September 2026, neither marked out of date

The carrier fees are published twice as well, and they do not match either.

AT&T$0.0035$0.003
T-Mobile$0.0045$0.003
Verizon$0.0045$0.003
The figures on this page come from the phone pricing guide, because that is the document whose job is rates, and it publishes the higher carrier fees of the two. That is the deliberate choice: where two of a vendor's own documents disagree, we would rather quote the number that makes the platform look more expensive than the one that flatters it. A 6% gap on SMS and an 8% gap on outbound minutes is enough to matter at volume, and the honest position is that we cannot tell you which set your invoice will use. Check your own wallet transactions against both. Our A2P page quotes the other set, because that is the document it is built from.

Is it cheap?

Compared with buying a phone system separately, yes. These rates track Twilio's, the numbers are cheaper than most hosted providers charge, and having calls, texts and the CRM in one place is worth something on its own.

Compared with the expectation people arrive with, no. The platform is marketed as all-in-one at $97, and the phone system is the clearest example of something that is included as a feature but billed as a utility. Nobody is being deceived, the rates are published, but a wallet that auto-recharges your card is a very different experience from a flat monthly bill, and it is worth understanding before your first busy month rather than after it.

Before you send anything at volume, note that US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration, which has its own one-off and monthly fees on top of everything here. Those are on the A2P registration page.

If you are a trade rather than an agency, the feature these rates pay for is missed call text back, and what it costs per message is worked through on the missed call text back page.

Email is billed from the same wallet, at the rate on the email marketing page.

The rates are only knowable once you are in

The wallet and its transaction log are inside the account. If usage is going to decide your plan tier, the trial is where you find out what your actual volumes cost.

Common questions

How much does the GoHighLevel phone system cost?

Outbound calls are $0.0166 a minute and inbound $0.01165. SMS is $0.00747 per segment before carrier fees, which add $0.0035 to $0.0045 each. A local number is $1.15 a month and a toll-free number $2.15. All of it is charged from the agency wallet on top of the subscription.

Is phone usage included in the GoHighLevel plan price?

No. Every call, text and email is metered separately from an agency wallet that auto-recharges the card on file when the balance drops below your set threshold. The plan price buys the software, never the telecoms.

Can I charge my clients for phone usage?

Only from the $297 plan, and only at cost. Rebilling with a markup requires the $497 Agency Pro plan as part of SaaS mode. On the $97 Starter plan there is no rebilling mechanism, so client usage comes out of your own margin.

Why is my GoHighLevel phone bill higher than the published rates?

Most often carrier fees, which are charged per message on top of the segment rate and add roughly 45% to 60% on SMS. Call recording at $0.0025 a minute and transcription at $0.024 a minute are the other two common causes, since both are toggles rather than purchases.

Does GoHighLevel use Twilio?

LC Phone is HighLevel’s own layer and its rates track Twilio’s closely, with HighLevel’s own help centre describing LC Phone as offering a lower overall cost through internal billing efficiencies. You can also bring your own Twilio account instead.

Do I need A2P 10DLC registration to send SMS?

Yes, for US numbers. Registration carries a one-off fee of about $24.50 for most small senders and a monthly campaign fee from $1.50 to $10 depending on use case, all separate from the per-segment rates.
