How it works

GoHighLevel snapshots, explained plainly

A GoHighLevel snapshot copies one sub-account’s setup into another: workflows, funnels, pipelines, calendars, templates and dashboards. It never copies contacts, conversations, appointments or integrations, so it is a template rather than a backup. Nothing syncs automatically, and anything needing authentication, Stripe and WordPress included, must be reconnected by hand.

The author has not used this product. Everything here comes from six public sources: the maker's own site, its pricing and refund terms, its changelog, its support forum, counted complaints across recent public reviews, and a like-for-like comparison against the nearest alternatives. We never claim experience we do not have.

Which badge a page carries is enforced in the site build, not just in editing. A page cannot use first-hand language unless it has declared itself a real-use review, so the badge and the writing cannot drift apart. The full method

You pay exactly what you would pay going direct. The maker pays us a share of their margin, not a surcharge on you.

We are never paid for a positive verdict, no maker sees a review before it publishes, and we publish verdicts recommending against products we could earn from. Commission rates never influence which products we cover or how we rank them. Full disclosure

The short version

  • Configuration crosses. Activity does not. That single line explains almost every snapshot question.
  • Loading one onto a live client account adds, it does not wipe, unless you override a clash deliberately.
  • A snapshot is a photograph. It does not update itself when the source account changes.
  • Every authenticated connection breaks in transit and needs redoing at the far end.

What a snapshot is

A snapshot is a saved copy of how one sub-account is put together, which you can load into another sub-account in a few minutes instead of rebuilding it. For an agency onboarding a new client, this is the difference between a day of setup and a coffee break, and it is the main reason the three sub-accounts on the $97 plan feel more usable than the number suggests.

The mental model that keeps you out of trouble is this: a snapshot carries the machinery, never the business. Everything you built is in it. Everything that happened is not. Once that lands, the rest of the behaviour stops being surprising.

What crosses, and what does not

Snapshot contents, checked against HighLevel's own documentation on 2 September 2026
AssetIn the snapshot?
Workflows, triggers and Conversation AIYes
Funnels, websites, forms, surveys and quizzesYes
Pipelines, custom fields, custom objects and tagsYes
Email and text templates, campaigns, social plannerYes
Calendars, services, resources and add-onsYes
Dashboards, custom reports and custom metricsYes
Memberships, courses, certificates and webinarsYes
Contacts and their associationsNo
Conversations, message history and appointmentsNo
Stripe connection and third-party integrationsNo
Phone numbers assigned to Voice AI agentsNo
Reputation data and live account activityNo
Private dashboardsNo

The bottom half of that table is the useful half. People assume a snapshot is a backup and discover at the worst possible moment that it is not. If a client account is deleted, the snapshot restores the funnels and the workflows and returns exactly none of the contacts, none of the conversation history and none of the booked appointments.

The flip side is that this is precisely what makes snapshots safe to sell, share and hand to a client. There is no way to accidentally ship someone else’s contact list inside one, because the format has no room for it.

Voice AI is a specific trap. The agent configuration crosses, the phone number attached to it does not, so a loaded snapshot arrives with an AI receptionist that has nothing to answer. Our Voice AI page covers what that number costs to replace.

Loading onto a live account

AdditiveLoading a snapshot onto a working client account does not delete their data. It only overwrites where you explicitly choose to override a conflicting asset.help.gohighlevel.com, checked 2 September 2026

This is the question the support forum gets most, and the answer is reassuring with one caveat. The load process is additive by default. Existing contacts, conversations and appointments are untouched because, as above, snapshots have no concept of them anyway.

The caveat is assets with the same name. If the incoming snapshot contains a workflow or a funnel that clashes with one already in the account, you are asked what to do, and choosing to override is genuinely destructive to that asset. Read those prompts rather than clicking through them, especially on an account a client is actively using.

The five questions worth answering before you click load
QuestionAnswer
What a snapshot isA copy of one sub-account’s configuration that you load into another. It moves the setup, not the business, so it is a template rather than a backup.
What it will not doMove a single contact, conversation or appointment. Anything that represents activity stays behind, which is what makes them safe to hand around.
Loading over a live accountIt adds rather than deletes. Existing client data survives unless you deliberately override a conflicting asset during the load.
Keeping one currentNothing syncs on its own. You refresh the snapshot from the source account manually, then push the refreshed version to linked sub-accounts.
What breaks after loadingAnything that needed an authentication. Stripe, WordPress licences, WhatsApp before Meta approval, and Voice AI numbers all need reconnecting by hand.

Snapshots need an account to live in

Build one client account properly during the trial, then snapshot it. That saved setup is the asset, and it is worth more than any template you can buy.

Should you buy one?

There is a whole cottage industry selling prebuilt snapshots for particular niches, dentists, roofers, gyms, and the pitch is that you skip the build entirely. That is a reasonable thing to want and a risky thing to buy, for reasons the sellers do not advertise.

A snapshot you did not build is a system you cannot fix. When a workflow misfires at two in the afternoon on a client’s busiest day, you are debugging somebody else’s logic in an interface you are still learning. The learning curve is already the most complained-about thing on this platform, and buying a snapshot postpones the climb rather than removing it.

The other issue is fit. A generic niche snapshot arrives with dozens of assets you did not ask for, and pruning is slower than building. If you do buy, treat it as a reference to read rather than a system to run, and rebuild the three workflows you actually need in your own account where you understand every step.

When a bought snapshot helps, and when it does not
SituationOur call
Brand new to the platform, want to see how a real build is structuredReasonable, as a study aid
Onboarding your fifth client in the same nicheBuild your own once, reuse it forever
Hoping to skip learning the workflow builderNo. It postpones the problem
Need it live for a paying client next weekNo. Unfamiliar logic under deadline

We are not naming or ranking snapshot sellers, and we will not until there is a way to verify what is inside one before purchase. Recommending a package we cannot inspect would be exactly the kind of thing this site exists to avoid, and our method page explains where that line sits.

Keeping one current

Snapshots do not track their source. Improve a workflow in the account you built the snapshot from, and every account you already loaded it into keeps the old version forever unless you act.

The route back is to refresh the snapshot from the source account manually, then push the refreshed version to the sub-accounts linked to it. That works, but it is a deliberate action on your calendar rather than something the platform does for you, and an agency running twenty client accounts should treat snapshot maintenance as a recurring job rather than a one-off. This is one of the practical arguments for the $297 Unlimited plan: once you are past a handful of accounts, the template discipline matters more than the seat count.

If you are buying snapshots to skip the setup

Paying for someone else's build is a sign the platform is heavier than the job. Systeme.io ships templated funnels you can launch in an afternoon, free, with nothing to import and nothing to buy from a third party.

The template library argument

ClickFunnels has the largest proven template library in this category and it is included, not sold separately by resellers. That is the same problem snapshots solve, without the marketplace.

Common questions

Do GoHighLevel snapshots include contacts?

No. Contacts, their associations, conversations, message history and appointments never travel in a snapshot. Only configuration crosses, which is why a snapshot is a template rather than a backup.

Will loading a snapshot delete my client’s data?

No. The load is additive and existing data survives. The one exception is an asset with a conflicting name, where you are prompted and can choose to override, and that override does destroy the existing version.

Do snapshots update automatically?

No. A snapshot is a point-in-time copy. You refresh it from the source account by hand, then push the refreshed version to linked sub-accounts. Changes made in the source do not propagate on their own.

What breaks after loading a snapshot?

Anything that required authentication. Stripe connections, third-party integrations, WordPress licences, WhatsApp before Meta approval, and phone numbers assigned to Voice AI agents all need reconnecting manually in the destination account.

Can I sell GoHighLevel snapshots?

Yes. HighLevel runs a marketplace where snapshots can be sold one-off, monthly or yearly, with protection options for the creator. It is a genuine revenue line for agencies that have built something specific to a niche.

How many snapshots can I have?

There is no published cap, and snapshots are not what the plan tiers meter. What limits you is sub-accounts, three on the $97 plan and unlimited from $297, since each snapshot needs somewhere to be loaded.
