Cancelling GoHighLevel
Cancel in Agency Settings, then Billing, then "Want to modify/cancel your subscription?". Your data is deleted after 90 days. A $27 a month pause plan keeps the account and its data alive if you might come back. There is no published refund policy, and if you bought your account through another agency rather than from HighLevel, only that agency can cancel it.
Research-led reviewThe author has not used this product. Built from public sources. What this means
The author has not used this product. Everything here comes from six public sources: the maker's own site, its pricing and refund terms, its changelog, its support forum, counted complaints across recent public reviews, and a like-for-like comparison against the nearest alternatives. We never claim experience we do not have.
Which badge a page carries is enforced in the site build, not just in editing. A page cannot use first-hand language unless it has declared itself a real-use review, so the badge and the writing cannot drift apart. The full method
We earn a commission if you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you.How this works
You pay exactly what you would pay going direct. The maker pays us a share of their margin, not a surcharge on you.
We are never paid for a positive verdict, no maker sees a review before it publishes, and we publish verdicts recommending against products we could earn from. Commission rates never influence which products we cover or how we rank them. Full disclosure
The short version
- Self-service. No phone call, no retention queue, no notice period to serve.
- You must write at least 30 words of feedback to complete it.
- 90 days before deletion, which is more grace than most platforms give.
- Export first. Snapshots do not contain contacts or conversations.
The steps
| Step | |
|---|---|
| 1 | Agency Settings, then Billing |
| 2 | Click "Want to modify/cancel your subscription?" |
| 3 | Choose Cancel Plan |
| 4 | Pick a cancellation reason |
| 5 | Read the data loss warning and confirm |
| 6 | Write at least 30 words of feedback. This is not optional. |
Credit where it is due: this is self-service. There is no retention call to sit through and no cancellation form emailed to support, which is more than several competitors manage and more than this platform's support reputation would lead you to expect.
One large exception. If you did not buy from HighLevel directly, but from an agency reselling sub-accounts under SaaS mode, HighLevel cannot cancel your account and neither can you. Only the agency that sold it to you can. If you are unsure which you have, look at whose name is on the charge on your card statement.
What happens to your data
| Detail | |
|---|---|
| Data retention | Deleted after 90 days |
| Pause instead | $27 / month keeps the account and its data |
| Refunds | No published policy. Refund requests and billing disputes go to the billing team for review. |
| Bought through an agency? | HighLevel cannot cancel it. Only the agency that sold you the sub-account can. |
Ninety days sounds like plenty and is easy to sleepwalk through. The failure mode is predictable: you cancel in month one intending to export properly, the project moves on, and in month four someone asks for the contact history. Export on the day you cancel, not on the day you remember.
Pausing instead
The $27 a month pause plan is the option most people cancelling do not know exists, and for a specific situation it is clearly the right one: you are between clients, or the business is seasonal, or you are trialling something else and are not certain. Twenty seven dollars to keep the account, the data and the configuration intact is cheap against rebuilding a workflow library from nothing.
It is the wrong choice if you have actually decided. Paused subscriptions are famously easy to forget, and $27 a month for three years to preserve data you never open is a worse outcome than a clean export and a cancellation.
| If | Then |
|---|---|
| You expect to be back within a year | Pause. $27 a month beats rebuilding |
| You are testing an alternative and might return | Pause until the alternative is proven, then cancel |
| You have decided and moved on | Export, then cancel. Do not pause out of sentiment |
| Cost is why you are leaving | Cancel. Paying to store what you left over price is the wrong shape |
Refunds
There is no published refund policy. HighLevel's documentation says refund requests and billing disputes require review by the billing team, which describes a process rather than an entitlement, and that distinction matters when you are asking for money back.
Two things follow. Annual billing is a real commitment, because there is nothing in writing entitling you to a refund of the unused portion. And the HIPAA add-on is explicitly non-refundable, permanently, as covered on the HIPAA page.
Worth naming the contrast: ClickFunnels publishes a 30 day money-back guarantee and Kajabi publishes a no-questions refund within 30 days of the first charge. Whether that changes your decision depends on how much certainty you need up front.
Before you commit to a destination, the options sorted by why you are leaving are on GoHighLevel alternatives. It is worth reading first, because two of the five common reasons are not solved by switching.
Take these with you
| Export | How, and the catch |
|---|---|
| Contacts and custom fields | CSV export from the contacts view. This is the one that matters most and it is not in a snapshot. |
| Conversations and call recordings | No bulk export. If message history has legal or commercial value, plan for this early rather than at the end. |
| Workflows, funnels, pipelines | A snapshot preserves configuration for reuse in another HighLevel account. It is useless anywhere else. |
| Invoices and payment records | Export from payments, and reconcile against Stripe separately since Stripe holds its own record. |
| Calendars and appointments | Export before cancelling. Appointment history does not travel in a snapshot either. |
If it was the plan tier rather than the platform
Worth checking before you cancel: a lot of the frustration people describe is really about being on Starter, where you cannot rebill client usage. That is a plan problem rather than a product one, and it is cheaper to fix than to migrate.

If you are leaving because it is more than you needed
This is the most common reason people leave: they bought an agency platform for one business. Systeme.io does funnels, email, courses and payments free, with no sub-accounts and no wallet.

If you are leaving for a better builder
Same $97 as GoHighLevel Starter, spent on the funnel editor instead of on agency features, and with a refund policy in writing, which GoHighLevel does not publish.

Common questions
How do I cancel my GoHighLevel subscription?
Go to Agency Settings, then Billing, click "Want to modify/cancel your subscription?", choose Cancel Plan, select a reason, read the data loss warning, confirm, and write at least 30 words of feedback. It is self-service with no retention call.
What happens to my data when I cancel GoHighLevel?
It is deleted after 90 days. Export contacts and any conversation or appointment history you need before that window closes, since a snapshot preserves configuration only and contains no contacts, conversations or appointments.
Can I pause GoHighLevel instead of cancelling?
Yes. A $27 a month pause plan keeps the account and its data intact. It is worth it if you expect to return within a year, and a poor deal if you have genuinely decided to leave, since forgotten pauses run for years.
Does GoHighLevel give refunds?
There is no published refund policy. HighLevel’s documentation says refund requests and billing disputes require review by their billing team, which is a process rather than an entitlement. The HIPAA add-on is explicitly non-refundable.
I bought GoHighLevel through an agency. How do I cancel?
Only that agency can cancel it. HighLevel cannot change or cancel a sub-account sold to you by a reseller under SaaS mode, so you need to contact the agency’s administrator. Check whose name appears on your card statement if you are unsure.
Will cancelling delete my clients’ sub-accounts?
Cancelling the agency account ends the whole subscription, so plan for client accounts before you click rather than after. If clients need continuity, arrange a sub-account transfer to another agency first, which HighLevel supports as a separate process.
